KIA General Membership Meeting

The August KIA newsletter gave members an agenda of a HART update, with the two mayoral candidates making presentations, for the August 31st KIA General Membership Meeting. The week before, KIA members were emailed information of a change in agenda since Mayor Caldwell and Brennan Morioka of HART were to be on the Mainland for a meeting on the rail. So that KIA members would still hear from the two mayoral candidates, Mayor Caldwell was asked to have someone read his message at the meeting. Then. since the City and County Ordinance 16-21 relating to a 50% exemption on property valuation for the 2017-2018 fiscal year was just announced, Councilwoman Carol Fukunaga was contacted. She agreed to give KIA members the information on how to file by their September 30th deadline. For any questions, feel free to call 768-5006 or email cafukunaga@honolulu.gov.

The KIA General Membership Meeting can be viewed on YouTube at https://youtu.be/prIEUXHqELw. You can see KIA’s presentation of a $10,000 check to KCAA Muriel Preschool from the KIA Invitational Golf Tournament which was held on August 17th at the Pearl Country Club. Mayoral candidate Charles Djou made a presentation, as well as Raymond Soon who read Mayor Caldwell’s message. KIA members were also given a Howard Hughes Corporation powerpoint by Todd Apo. All-in-all, this was a very timely meeting, with the most updated information from all.

KIA News

Hope you read the September 14th issue of the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, page A13, "Island Voices" written by Loretta Yajima of the Children's Discovery Center.  It reminded us that although we may be in a world of conflict, we must keep a focus on promoting peach through our keiki, as they continue to experience cultural diversity in Hawaii.  She wrote, "Peace with the Heart of Aloha, with convening theme for the Asia Pacific Children's Museum Conference being held in Hawaii October 19 to 21, is an opportunity for educators and children's museum professionals to come together to discuss common issues and to see and experience how our sense of aloha and our multicultural society here in Hawaii can have a positive impact on the world beyond our slang shores."

KIA Networking Event

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: The last KIA event to meet fellow members will be held on Wednesday, October 19th at the Honolulu Design Center in the Cupola Room at 11:30am. This is a bring-your-own lunch OR purchase a delicious meal from Stage Restaurant.  Since the October KIA newsletter may not be out in time, an email blast will be sent with a reminder, as well as three choices for lunch. Attendees in the past have  learned about their fellow members and saw opportunities to do work with each other. The more we learn about each other and our products or services, the more we can use or recommend our own KIA members.
