KIA News

The UH John A. Burns School of Medicine’s former dean, Dr. Cadman, passed away on September 24th, at the age of 70, surrounded by his family in Oregon. He arrived in Hawaii in 1999 and stepped down as dean in 2005 after learning that he suffered from Primary Progressive Aphasia, a rare degenerative condition that robs those it strikes of the ability to articulate thoughts in speech or writing. Dr. Cadman retired on October 31, 2009. JABSOM has been a KIA member because of his support and KIA extends their condolences.

Howard Hughes Corporation’s Ward Warehouse has a Farmers Market every Saturday from 8am to 12noon in the front parking lot facing Auahi Street. There are many vendors with food, drink, crafts, etc. PLUS a live band.

Fisher Hawaii will close it’s Cooke Street store on October 18th, but open in a new location on the 19th at 690 Pohukaina Street.

Have you visited the Children’s Discovery Center lately? There are some new attractions and games for the keiki. You will find a “Pet Clinic” in the first floor’s township and a “Connect Four” game. They were featured in the October/November 2015 Generations Magazine (page 14) in an article written by Sherry Goya, KIA Executive Director.
