Board Highlights

Howard Hughes Corporation gave the KIA Board an update on two of their projects in Kakaako - the Gateway project (where Ward Warehouse is located) and Block M, the future home of Whole Foods. They have already gone through the first round of hearings at HCDA. Gateway will be a premier site right on Ala Moana Blvd. There will be 215 units, retail along Auahi Street, with storefronts and open space for outdoor seating. Block M is where Whole Foods will be, which is mauka of the movie theaters. Adding Whole Foods and street retail will have opportunities to tie in with the theater and shopping center. There will also be small shops and restaurants on Kamakee Street. A private street will be behind the theaters. Residential on the Ewa side of the block, which is now surface parking, will have a 450 unit tower planned with smaller units, to allow more per floor. At full build out of the Howard Hughes’ properties, 60 acres over 15 - 20 years, that translates to around 4,000 units.
