Historic Ala Moana Pumping Station

The KIA Board of Directors and officers have committed 100% to the KIA Invitational Golf Tournament slated to benefit the Children's Discovery Center on Wednesday, July 30th at the Pearl Country Club. Gold Sponsors are Howard Hughes Corporation, J. Kadowaki, Inc. and Kamehameha Schools. Silver Sponsors are Bank of Hawaii, Central Pacific Bank, City Fender, First Hawaiian Bank, Servco Foundation and WCIT Architecture. Golf teams will be Island Pool & Spa, Media5 Architecture, Shidler Pacific Advisors, and U. Okada & Co.

Other commitments for the tournament are: Gold - Title Guaranty and Stanford Carr Development.  Silver - Commercial Roofing, Green Path Technologies, Hawaii National Bank, Pecson & Associates, Lauren R. Hong Wright, and Tyler & Loretta Yajima.  Tee - Buster's Repair, King Street Properties, and S. Robert Lee, CPA.  There are two team commitments from Architects Hawaii and Universal Protective Service. KIA Networking Event

The first KIA Networking Event for 2014, was held on Wednesday, April 16th in the Ward Warehouse Kewalo Conference Room from 11:30am. Mahalo to the Howard Hughes Corporation for the use of the room. The next KIA Networking Event is set for Wednesday, October 15th in the Kewalo Conference Room. Architects Hawaii is a local company, founded in 1946, whose current project in Kakaako is Symphony Honolulu. Chaney Brooks  has been doing commercial real estate in Kakaako for many years. Sherry A. Goya, LLC is a 20 year old business consultant company, and she also owns Real Estate Referral Center, Inc. A very versatile company, Hawaii Human Resources, started with an employee recruitment business and now includes a health care program. The Honolulu Design Center has wonderful furniture and four great social venues - Stage Restaurant, Amuse Wine Bar, Cafe, and the Cupola Events Theater. Keller Williams is one of the fastest growing real estate companies in Hawaii and The Ihara Team has a "complete solution" for everyone's real estate needs. A print company (and more) for over forty years is Obun Hawaii Inc., which prints, mails, distributes, etc., to include printing of the KIA membership directory. A fairly new KIA member is Ohana Health Plan, which educated attendees on Medicare basics and the Medicare Advantage Plan. Founded in 2006, Pacific Rim Bank has grown because of its commitment to accommodate special niche markets, to include non-profits and commercial loans. Senior Move Managers/DeClutter Hawaii has been in Hawaii for over three years, servicing homeowners with downsizing, organizing, decluttering, moving, and much more. The developer of Halekuwila Place, Stanford Carr Development also enlightened the attendees on the Block A project in Kakaako.


Legislative Update

As the Legislature comes to a close, Senator Chun Oakland wanted to share a summary of what was accomplished in the areas of housing and homelessness this session. Senator Chun Oakland was a speaker at the KIA General Membership Meeting in January. For more information and to read the summary please click here.


HCDA News

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported that HCDA and other stakeholders involved in the redevelopment of the Kakaako neighborhood will participate in a forum May 21st from 11:30am to 1:30pm at the YWCA’s Cafe Julia to discuss plans for the area.  Speakers include Anthony Ching of HCDA, Tom Apple, UH Manoa Chancellor, Councilwoman Carol Fukunaga, OHA Trustee Oswald Stender, and Race Randle from the Howard Hughes Corp. There will also be representatives from the Grassroot Institute of Hawaii, the City, Ferraro and Choi Architects, Kamehameha Schools, and the Oahu Island Parks Conservancy.
