KIA General Membership Meeting

The second and last KIA Networking Event will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, October 27th, starting at 11:30am.  A link will be emailed closer to the event, but mark your calendar now! All attendees will be able to do a short presentation on their company and then ask questions of each other or inquire about meeting to discuss working together. This is a good way to network with individuals and companies who live, work or play in Kakaako.

News from JABSOM

Soligenix, Inc., a late-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing and commercializing products to treat rare diseases where there is an unmet medical need, announced this week release of a preprint demonstrating advanced preclinical immunogenicity studies for CiVax™ (heat-stable COVID-19 vaccine program) demonstrating durable broad-spectrum neutralizing antibody responses, including against the Beta, Gamma and Delta variants.

The article, ‘Protein Vaccine Induces a Durable, More Broadly Neutralizing Antibody Response in Macaques than Natural Infection with SARS-CoV-2 P.1,’ has been posted as an accelerated preprint on bioRxiv. This work is part of an ongoing collaboration between the laboratory ofAxel Lehrer, PhD, Associate Professor at the Department of Tropical Medicine, Medical Microbiology and Pharmacology, John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and Soligenix. Development continues under a $1.5M Small Business Innovation Research grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases awarded to Soligenix (Nasdaq: SNGX) in December 2020.

Import Call Info

Starting on October 24th, all telephone calls (including on the same island) in Hawaii must be dialed using TEN digits or the call will NOT go through….even if you are calling your next door neighbor! Be sure all numbers in your phone’s directory has Hawaii’s area code, as well as for anyone you add from now on. This change is because the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is making the change so that emergency calls made to the National Suicide Prevention Center and the Mental Health Crisis Lifeline can be made by simply calling “988.”  That particular prefix is common in Hawaii; therefore, if local calls do not start with “808,” the caller could get one of those crisis lines by mistake.
