KIA General Membership Meeting

The second KIA General Membership Meeting of 2022, but the first in-person meeting since January 2020, will be held on Wednesday, August 31st from 11:30am at Kupu (see flyer attached). KIA will provide lunch which will be prepared by the Kupu staff. RSVPs will be taken in August, closer to the meeting date since plans may change in-between now and then.

A panel of three speakers will discuss: “Transportation Mobility in Kakaako,” as this area of Oahu has a number of options besides your vehicle, TheBus, or walking. Julie Yamamoto is General Operations Manager at Hui Car Share, and will talk about the innovative car share service from Servco Pacific Inc. The head of City Operations for Wheels, Brent Vigneault is responsible for bringing safe, reliable, and affordable rides to users in Kakaako. Todd Boulanger is an intricate part of Biki, the bike-share which has been in Kakaako a number of years.

KIA Invitational Golf Tournament

It was missed in the June KIA newsletter, but to add excitement to the golf tournament, First Hawaiian Bank donated the Hole-in-One insurance; alas, no one won the $10,000….maybe next time! Word around the course was that at Hole #1, where MD Restoration was a “tent sponsor,” good food and drink were provided to all golfers. A big Mahalo to these two very important sponsors.

Allen Akiona, Jr., KCAA Muriel Preschool’s Center Director, wrote to the KIA Board of Directors, in part, “On behalf of KCAA Muriel Preschool, I would like to thank your organization for donating to our school the generous sum of $10,000 at the annual KIA Invitational Golf Tournament. It was a great experience for KCAA staff member to work together with your volunteers as a team to make the Tournament such a success! The slide show including Muriel children and staff was a nice addition to the program.” In closing, Allen wrote: “We hope to complete our fundraising efforts for playground improvements with the next 18 months and will be proud to acknowledge KIA as a donor for the project.”
