2022 Officers of the Board

The KIA Board of Directors for 2022 have been voted by its members, and the Board has elected the following officers:

President - Nicole Nakano

Vice President - Jon Lee

Secretary/Treasurer - Kurt Murata


KIA General Membership Meeting

Wednesday, January 26th

from 11:30am via Zoom


A presentation will be made by Mark Hakoda, the Hawaii Community Development Authority (HCDA) Program Specialist, who will discuss the Kakaako Mauka Area Rule amendment process. He recently returned to Hawaii after spending nearly ten years working abroad. Mark was born and raised in Aiea. He  graduated from the University of Hawaii with a Bachelor’s of Architecture.  


The second speaker will be Paul Brewbaker, who will give us an economic view of 2022. He is the principal of TZ Economics, a Hawaii consultancy doing corporate work, development impact analysis, and litigation support. Paul’s background is in research on the Hawaii economy and in country risk and financial risk analytics from 25 years as a commercial bank economist. He received his A.B. from Stanford University and received his Ph.D. from the University of Hawaii, both in economics.

KIA Member News

Logos Bookstore of Hawaii has updated store hours for 2022 - visit them at Ward Centre, next door to Genki Sushi, on Monday to Saturday, 9:30am to 6pm. They are closed on Sundays.


KIA Invitational Golf Tournament

The 2022 KIA Invitational Golf Tournament is scheduled for Friday, May 20, 2022 at the Pearl Country Club. Proceeds from the tournament are earmarked for KCAA Muriel Preschool, located in the middle of Kakaako, serving keiki from two to five years of age. KIA Board Profile


One of the newest KIA Board members is Jeffrey Chen, the Senior General Manager of Howard Hughes Corporation, who is responsible for the oversight and leading all aspects of management and operations of commercial real estate at Ward Village. He brings more than 14 years of commercial real estate industry expertise including experience in regional shopping centers, commercial parking, airport concessions, and mixed-use development. Prior to joining Howard Hughes, Jeffrey worked for Westfield Corporation, serving as General Manager of Los Angeles International Airport where he led the overall management and operations of the terminal concessions program, and completed a $200M redevelopment and renovation of five terminals. Also, Jeffrey served as General Manager for Simon Property Group for a Bay Area regional shopping center. Originally from Southern California, Jeffrey earned his degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting from University of California, Riverside.
